Welcome!

Hello Class!

Welcome to “Dancing Culture and Religion” (RLST 3838) Summer Term A 2012. You have been emailed a syllabus in both WORD and PDF format, but any updates can be found here as well.  SYLLABUS

You will be posting your journal writings and other assignments on this site and have an opportunity to see what other students are writing.  Sam and Gabrielle, your instructor and TA, will reply and also post from time to time.

Your TA, Gabrielle Biscaye, took this course in Fall of 2010 and worked extensively with Sam in preparing the course as a summer online course offering, first offered Summer 2011.  Gabi set up this blog site and did the grading for the first online offering as she traveled about the world (Europe and Latin America).  Together we recorded conversations related to every section of the course.  You can find these “conversations” under the “Dancing Culture Religion” Tab on my website www.Sam-Gill.com.  They are informal but you may find them helpful and humorous.  Also included the paper Gabi did for the course on this site for your inspiration and as an example.  You may also go to her DCR related blog, “Bachateame, Maria” for other references of how to explore and relate dancing, culture and religion to each other. Be warned, the blog is a work in progress, and unedited— as is the writer 🙂

Gabi is now living in Rome but is excited to interact with you through the modern marvel that is the internet. Feel free to contact her anytime.

Here’s her silly self-introduction that is not completely fitting anymore as it was done last year (and she’s since discovered so many wonders she’s eager to share) but you’ll get an idea of my place here with DCR and Sam.
